Better Is One Day in Your Courts

I can't read Psalm 84 without singing the popular Christian worship song that was based off of this Psalm "Better is one day in Your courts, better is one day in Your house, better is one day in Your courts than thousands elsewhere." Last night Matt and I joined the high school ministry for their bible study and as they were studying Psalm 84, a question was asked that stuck with me... When you sing that song do you mean it? When you say those words "better is one day in your house than thousands elsewhere" do you truly mean it? Of course, I want to say yes, I mean it! But when I really checked my heart I realized how many times over and over again I choose those "thousands elsewhere" places. There will be days when I wake up and look at my stack of books including my bible, journal, and devotional and say to myself "not today, I have to do too many other things." I'll choose to start my day off without my greatest counselor. Why I can't remember that I'm setting myself up for failure each time is beyond me.

I once read that Christians must have amnesia because we are so forgetful of the things we learn and know in our hearts. Even when God shows us over and over again we still forget. For me, I've been shown again and again by God that I need to put Him first in everything I do because everything else I do after that is by His Grace and flows from Him. How can I accomplish any other task in my day without him? I can tell you that I don't accomplish anything very effectively when I choose those "thousands elsewhere places."

Time and time again I'll engage myself in the things I NEED/WANT to do and continuously put my will above His Will. So my encouragement to myself and to you is to check your heart and see where you stand when you answer this question then ask God to change you. My prayer for the past few days has continuously been "Your will before mine, God"
